Jane Telford has been showing us how to use the multi-needle tools in her Pergamano Shows on Create and Craft TV. I know blogs have already been made, but I thought it was time to get the tools out again and do something ‘Christmassy’ with them! Let’s jump right in…

Method

Step 1. Attach the piece of parchment to the tag plate (portrait style and central) so that you will have space for the multi-tool work later on. Then trace out the largest tag on the plate, using the number 1 Groovi tool – just the two outside lines and the small circle at the top.

Step 2. Go to the Glistening Winter Wishes plate and attach it over the tag. Use the pattern along the bottom to help you put it in place so that you can fit some tool work into the design. Ignore the snowflakes and wording. The number 1 tool is good for everything, but use the number 2 tool for anything that is going to be snow.

Step 3. Spread some Dorso Crayon on the back of the work at the top. Use the darkest colour at the top, going into purple in the middle and yellow nearest the ground. Put some Dorso oil on a rolled up paper towel and blend the colours so that they even out and the edges of the colours blend together.

Step 4. Emboss the snow – use the hockey stick to make soft peaks of snow, then emboss the top of the lamp. Do this gently and in layers, resting the parchment in between.

Step 5. Colour the trees and lamp post with number 20 PCE pen.

Step 6. Photocopy page 21 from Linda’s Handbook of Multi-Needle tools Vol 1. I have marked the patterns I am going to use with a red pen.

Step 7. You need a thin picot mat with a stout piece of card underneath it to protect the needles of your tools. Working on the front, lay the parchment over the paper where you want the perforation patterns to be. Fasten it down with Groovi Tabs and, lining up the needles with the dots, pierce through both the parchment and the copy paper. Add some 5 in a circle perforations into the sky to represent snowflakes.

Step 8. Follow the embossing and cutting pattern from the book on page 18.
If you are stuck for placing the embossed heart, draw it first with a white pencil. Use a 3mm ball tool to lightly emboss each heart and let it rest in between each layer. Use the 1mm ball tool in the centres of the 4 needle perforations. Use the 1.5mm ball tool into the 5 in a circle perforations. Deeply perforate and then snip out the crosses and slots according to Linda’s instructions.

Step 9. Go around the edge with the Semi-Circle perforating tool.
If you want to do a double edge, then you will find if you shallow perforate the semi-circle first, then use the 2-needle tool (hooking the needle into the last hole) that the measurement between the semi-circles will be perfect. The semi-circle designs are on page 30 of Linda’s book, if you need to follow a pattern.
TOP TOP: Start at the corners and work equally from corner to corner to the middle. Then you will be able to tell what you can fit in the in.

Step 10. Emboss the semi-circles, starting with the 3mm ball tool, just lightly at first, again leaving time in between layers for the parchment to rest.
This is when the fibers of the paper have a chance to ‘ping’ back before you go onto it again to make it whiter. I do at least 3 layers of embossing. Once you have got it white enough, perforate deeply and then snip the piece out.

Step 11. Choose a piece of backing paper and attach your tag with two brads at the base, and a sliver of double sided tape under where the bow will be. Cut around the backing paper very carefully. Apply some sticky ink with the mapping pen to the trees, top of the street light, seat and snow, and then add some glitter. Make a bow with your chosen ribbon. Stick the tag to your card blank and add the ribbon.

What a beautiful project! Perfect for Christmas. Which is looooooming!
