Laughter Therapy

Hey all, Grace with you again!

Does anyone remember being a teenager and laughing so hard that they actually wet themselves? I certainly do. Happened quite often actually. Many a parent-teacher conference I was referred to as a ‘giggle pot’.

I recall my Mum having to buy me a new pair of GAP jeans in London, because my friend couldn’t hoist herself up onto the lion at Trafalgar Square. Didn’t take much!

Another time, we had a male nudist visit our girls school! A life drawing lesson with a fella in the altogether, as my Mum calls it when you are stark naked. In this art class, all he had to protect himself, from 30 gigglepots, was a prop sword. A sword! And every time he dramatically posed with his sword – I lost it. And was removed from the class.

My Mum remembers clearing Streatham ice rink as a teenager, after having a laughing puddle fit in the middle of it. Ice + Wee = STEAM

My Mum and I have a tendency to giggle a lot when we’re together (sorry Dave!). We have the same sense of humor, you see. Very dry. Even when we FaceTime, we tend to laugh a lot. But we rarely laugh to the point of having to buy new trousers these days. Probably for the best though! I don’t know exactly why we stop laughing as hard as we get older. We still laugh, of course, but just not quite so freely. Or aggressively?!

I think it’s just part of life, isn’t it? Having responsibilities and experiences that maybe dampen your overall carefree-ness. Something to work on! I certainly appreciate the big laughing fits more now, when they do come. When you can hardly talk, or breathe. Or stop wheezing.

My Mum is someone who brings more of this to my life, and (I think) so many others lives too. I see so many comments on Clarity’s Youtube videos about how she made someone laugh during her tutorial. Just by being herself.

So, I thought I’d share a laugh with you today. Check out this old video of my Mum, the wonderful Barbara Gray, laughing uncontrollably. I DARE you not to laugh along with her.

Countless studies have found that laughing frequently improves heart health, immune system response, and even mental outlook. So, I’m all about more laughter in 2020!

Laugh with me ๐Ÿ™‚

Lotsa Love, Grace xoxo

Wonderful! Funny how we lose that unrestrained laughing as we get older. We could start by making sure we smile more, really smiling at other people to create joy. Laughter will surely follow. Xx

Like mother, like daughter. We can hear the laughter in your words as you write this blog. We all need a good laugh now & again but as you say as we grow older it doesn’t seem to happen quite so often. The wrong sort of giggle is when it is really not the time & place for a giggle but somehow that only makes it worse. Definitely couldn’t not laugh with your mom in the video – a giggle is infectious.
Lets hope 2020 is a better year for laughing for all of us.

Great blog Grace , chuckled at the video . I remember when I used to have to do announcements over the tannoy , quite often got my words muddled we’d be in the office cracking up with laughter so miss those days since I was made redundant last year.

Brilliant. Enjoyed a good laugh with your mum. You two are naturals in the front of the camera. I was forever being sent out of the hall as a Brownie for laughing when we were standing in our sixes. I was asked at one point if I was made a sixer, would I stop laughing. I was made a sixer but I was as bad as ever! Happy days.

Thank you Grace, yes that brought a smile to my face. Love the saying ‘I laugh so hard the tears run down my leg’. I must remember that one. I can well imagine Dave doesn’t get a look in when you get together with your Mum. Keep that happy streak xx

Hadn’t really thought about it, Grace, but you’re right. Life just dampens the heck out of those kinds of laughs. We need to stop being so serious. These days, it’s a good sneeze that does the trick! It was good to watch and have a good laugh along with your mom (okay, I know mum) though. Thanks for sharing that joyful video!

What a fabulous mother-daughter relationship you both have …. very special and obviously a lot of fun too Grace! Thanks for giving me a good chuckle reading this and for the video of your mum losing it trying to do her first recording ……….. so glad to hear I’m not the only one who laughs in a ‘high whistle’ either. You’ve cheered me up today Grace …. still smiling now at the thought of the poor ‘life model’ and the sword (now there’s a story!) xx

I’ll happily laugh along with you, Grace. Bring it on. When you get a bit older, you’ll find the tears on your legs are back.

Just what I needed a good laugh. Have seen this video a few times before but laugh each time I see it. You and your mum have some of the same mannerisms you know Grave, same smile and same fingernail drumming on the desk. Both have infectious laughs too. Itโ€™s great to see you following in your mums footsteps. Hope all is going well Stateside. Keep up the good work and the blogging, canโ€™t wait for the next one!

Oh Grace, you do make me giggle.
And what do you mean remember when I was a teenager and I would laugh until I weeโ€™d myself.
    Iโ€™m 57 and Iโ€™m still doing it now ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ
I think you are probably a bit young for the second sitting of little accidents, so believe me when I say, youโ€™ve got it all to look forward too.

Dear Grace. I needed that, I have seen your Mum before, not able to get started. Itโ€™s a great tonic laughter. You two have a lovely relationship, thankfully I have with my daughter, but she is so far away most of the time. Glad we have FaceTime.
More laughter please, not much of it around at the moment. Xxxx
