Clarity Matters Blog Tutorial: Bees, Flowers & Lace
Hello hello! Grace here.
I hope this finds you safe, happy and enjoying your weekend! Feeling crafty?
Well, great! Because we’re joined today by the incredibly talented Glynis Whitehead, our friend and Clarity Crafts design team member. She has kindly put together a step-by-step project for us. It’s absolutely gorgeous!
I will hand you over to our teacher for today…
Bees, Flowers and Lace.
Ingredients
A4 Plain Parchment (GRO-AC-40024-A4)
Amazonia Designer Card – Petite Version 5×7 (ACC-CA-31050-57)
Josie’s Diagonal Lace Circle Duet – Courage (GRO-GG-42309-12)
Linda’s Bumble Bees A5 Groovi Plate (GRO-AN-40816-03)
Nested Circles Picot Cut Die Set and Groovi Plate (ACC-DI-30697-66)
Starter Kit Tool – 1 & 2 (GRO-AC-40026-XX)
Pergamano Embossing Tool – 4.5mm (PER-TO-70015-XX)
Micron Pens – Set of 7 (ACC-PE-30778-XX)
Pergamano Colours Exclusive Pens (PER-CO-70060-XX)
A suitable backing paper or card
Method
Step 1. Cut the A4 piece of parchment in half. Die cut the parchment and card together, using the 6th die in from the edge. I cut the spare piece of left over card to 2.5 x 3.5 inches – perfect for an ATC.
Step 2. Attach the parchment circle to the nested picot circle plate, being careful to match it up with the picots on the plate. Emboss the outside lines.
TOP TIP: Emboss the outside line first and then the inner line, and make sure to use your Groovi Guard to hold the parchment in place.
Step 3. Place the parchment circle over the Bumble Bee plate. To trace the bees, use a 005 micron pen. Get some bluebells into the side of the circle, trace the white dashes of the bee trail and, again with the micron pen, add another bee into the design. Use the number 1 tool to do this. Rotate the piece around so that each bee has its own trail.
Step 4. Working on the back, emboss the wings of the bees and ends of the petals. It doesn’t need to be too heavy, the white in the wings will be under some Perga Glitter in due course.
Step 5. Use the Perga Colour Exclusives to colour in the bees, flowers, buds, leaves and outer margin. I used numbers 20 and 2 for the bees, 12 and 13 for the flowers – putting down a layer of the lighter blue first and then some darker blue at top of the petals. I used number 16 for the buds, leaves and margin.
Step 6. Take the other half of the sheet of parchment and line it up on the grid, over a piercing mat.
You should easily get the lace mat out of an A5 piece of paper. Use the Bold 1-Needle tool to perforate the holes. When you have perforated all of the holes, turn the work around. The lace should ‘plug into the holes and the work will line up perfectly. Finish off the circle. When this is done, turn the work over.
Working on the back, line up again with the dots, embossing in between. A cutting guide and instructions are included in the packing with your plate. It is a good idea to hold on to this and keep it in a safe place.
Step 7. Snip out all the octagons that have no embossed dots and snip out the segments on the inside. Then cut around the outside so that you have a lace mat.
Step 8. Fix the parchment circle onto the Amazonia Card topper with a couple of brads, then add some sticky ink and Perga Glitter to the wings and bee trails.
Step 9. Slip the edges of the topper under the segments of the lace, then use the tape runner to attach the lace to your chosen backing card or paper. Attach this to a 6 x 6 inch card blank. Your project is complete!
That’s a beautiful project! I’m a sucker for anything with bees in it, but this is special.
