Loaves & Fishes

Hey folks, how’s it going?

What are you all up to this November weekend?

I’m giving wife a day off, today. She does a lot of things and she doesn’t drive, so she has to walk everywhere. Usually fully laden with a stubborn, verbose 3-year-old and a loud, heavy 21-month-old. And she’s a weary lady and deserves a day off.

Suits me. I’ll just drive over to sandma and grandad’s (yes, that’s sandma, not a type-o. My mum is called Sandra)… You never know, they might want a trip to the garden centre with us. Of course, they’ll see right through my mixed motives of wanting an extra pair of hands, but they won’t mind – especially if I splash out on a coffee… Not that I don’t enjoy the kids. They are always easy for me – novelty factor I suppose. But it can’t hurt to have an extra body or two who can run after the boy while we’re ogling the pets. Girl child asked for fish for her birthday you see, so that’s what we’re going to look at. Suits me. I want pet fish, too. Little does she know this will be a mutually enjoyed birthday present 😉 . Don’t judge me. It’s not like I’m not going to do all the work, anyway…

Ok, ok, I’ve teased you with my weekend adventure story long enough. Here’s the soda bread recipe: http://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/262572/easy-gluten-free-irish-soda-bread/

I baked it in my large black cast iron skillet and all! FYI: I didn’t have any buttermilk. But if you mix in a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice into regular milk and let it sit for a few minutes before using, it has the same effect. Just search the net for buttermilk substitutes if you like, there are a few different ones out there.

Hmm, nothing about craft yet, is there?

I know, how about you all let me know about your experiences crafting with children. My little girl loves to make a card. She’s a bit of a free thinker and won’t always play by the rules, but if you have any tips for craft projects with little ones, let me know in the comments. And tell me which Clarity products you’ve used. If I get enough feedback, I might have a little idea for another blog post…

Over and out!

Stuart

I used to craft with a friend of ours pre-teen girl and the one thing that I learnt is that she wanted to do it the same way I did – no short cuts I had to show her exactly what I used to do with my Claritystamps and other products and I was not allowed to make it child friendly either lol! Enjoy your day and good for you giving your wife a little break – more men should do that x

I used to do some craft with my great niece quite a few years ago, she was about 8 at the time. Mostly in those days we would make layered up cards from photos that I printed from the discs I’d bought. I used to let her pick out the photos from my stash some we would decoupage, others just layer up on different coloured card. She used to do all the gluing. She also loved using my various punches but did find them a bit hard for her to punch but she would pick out the ones she liked and I’d help her punch them. How nice to give your wife a day off from the children. I bet you enjoy having them to yourself sometimes too.

Thanks for the recipe. I haven’t met a Clarity product you can’t use with children yet. The four year old across the road is used to coming to have a go. Colouring in the lines is improving but his Groovi is awesome and he was made for mixed media. He loves die cutting. His mum wasn’t struck when he got acrylic on his trackies but I did say cold water… Paul is his hero.

Thanks for the link for the bread, will have a look in a minute as I am just catching up with the weekends blogs as we have been helping our daughter with some DIY & quick shopping trip to that famous Swedish store as an item was out of stock for delivery but was available in store – so M & D to the rescue.
As to crafting with little ones I find that they like to do most things but the cleanest one would be some Groovi. My Granddaughter loved mixing the pieces up with Groovi Go figures GRO-GO-40808-19 but also the mermaid & unicorn plates were a big hit.
