Bread Success!

Hi there, Stuart here again! Thanks for all the comments about bread last week. Hot topic, it seems.

Anyway, I did have a little go at gluten-free soda bread on Saturday. And it turned out quite nicely, as you can see below. A little over baked, but with a decent flavour and certainly not bad for a first attempt. Went quite nicely with wifeby’s apple and parsnip soup, too. And before you ask, no, I didn’t give any bowl scrapings to the children – I’m not that mean! – I just have a slightly sinister sense of humour 😈

Delicious, if a little crumbly…

The kids weren’t even around, as it turned out. Had a little sleepover with grandma and grandad, didn’t they?! Boy, that was a good night’s sleep (for us, not the grandparents). And it was nice to have a morning together without any winging. So, how did we spend it? We went into town and looked at carpet samples and second-hand furniture pending a house move. How dull, right? And did you see the weather on Saturday? What a way to make use of child-free time…

Oh well. You can’t govern the weather (or the kiddos, for that matter), but I’m still rather pleased with my bread making experiment. Be it Baking or Crafting, it’s all about the experience. We might not always get the exact result we’re after, but we learn each time we try. And it’s that trying and learning, that is ultimately so edifying.

I’m sure we all remember the first time we tried a new Craft, that is now like second nature to us. Those awkward first steps are essential, and probably quite useful for looking back and reflecting upon our progress. With that in mind, who’s feeling brave enough to share some of their early creations? Do you have anything lying around – a first attempt or an early design that you did years ago, that you might consider sharing? We’d love to see some if you have. Maybe with some more recent work, too, for contrast?

Either post in the comments with links to your work online, or you can always email us at gallery@claritystamp.com.

Really, we’d love to see some of your work, we always do.

Lastly, before I go; just a quick reminder that if you haven’t picked up a Speedball Brayer at a fantastic price yet, you can get one as our Pick of the Week by clicking here.

Clarity Matters. It really does.

Bye!

Stuart

Glad the bread trial went well. Please can we have the recipe next time? Sleeping sounds a very normal way to spend child free time. It’s just amazing you got up in time for the shopping! The brayers are great but can I justify a third…

That bread looks delicious & making me feel quite hungry. I need to hunt a recipe out & have ago. Any recommendations to which recipe to use? A wet day here so off to the Swedish flat pack furniture shop to look for bedroom furniture for the granddaughters rooms. As Grandparents we enjoy our sleepovers as we have forgotten what sleepless nights with children are like. More often or not they sleep through & are no problem !! same as eating no fuss !! Our neighbours little girl came round last time our granddaughters were here & had a 2nd lunch with us eating things she refuses to eat at home. Her answer to her Mom was that she eats what is given to her when she is at other peoples house !! Don’t you just loves kids for their straight talking !!

Bread looks yummy, then bread is my yum, love it. The apple and parsnip soup sounds tasty, too. You have started a whole new Clarity project, recipes, ha. Love my brayers, also, a very useful tool. I have a few large stamps and have found that if I place the card onto the inked up stamp, press down a little, then use a brayer to push harder, I get a really good impression. My hands are not too clever, so using the tools I have, I can still get a good image. Take care, Corinna.

    Hi Stuart
Your attempt at the soda bread looks great. My husband has been making ours for a good many years now in a bread machine but has yet to tattle soda bread. However he uses a variety of different types of flour so its not very often we have just a plain white one. The one he uses most is Mathews Cotswold Flour, they do a good collection of flavors and we can get it from Asda or sometimes Aldi. At present though he has some we got from Houghton Mill which is owned by NT where they grind the flour themselves. It is stone ground by them and is great. There’s also one at Stansby Mill.
I really enjoy reading blogs each day, looking forward to the next one. I have been reading Barbra’s since day 1 ! Regards to you and the crew Iris
