Clarity Matters Blog Tutorial: Alphabet Dies, Fives and Bee Hives

Hello hello! Grace here.

I hope this finds you well, safe and enjoying your weekend.

We are joined today by brilliant Clarity Design Team member, Tina Morris. She’s fab! You’ll have likely seen her incredible artwork samples all over Clarity Worldwide and Groovi Worldwide… Oh and the telly! She has very kindly put together an inky step-by-step blog tutorial for us.
I’ll hand you right over to our teacher…

Tina Morris

Hello my friends! As it’s the year of the alphabet, I wanted to show a little brightly coloured card made for our younger generation. Personalisation is the key, as you can see with the Clarity New Alphabet Die you can personalise anything, with any word! Your only limit is the size of card you use. You can make your own personalised postcards with a special saying or family motto, perhaps an art book, a scrapbook, the list is endless. What would you create? Let’s jump in!

Ingredients

6×6 White Card Blank (ACC-CA-31671-66)
New Design Stencil Club Back Issue – 86 – Splats (STE-PA-00771-A5)
Clarity Low Tack Masking Tape (ACC-AD-31211-XX)
Spot On Sponges (ACC-MG-30537-XX)
Pack of 6 Small Square Mounts (ACC-MO-31167-XX)
Wee Bees Stamp Set (STA-AN-11897-XX)
Splats & Splodges – Mixed Impressions A6 Stamp Set (STA-PA-11721-A6)
16x Clarity Embedders – Square & Rectangle (ACC-EM-31301-XX)
Groovi Embossing Tool 2mm – 2.8mm (GRO-AC-40027-XX)
Black Dual-Purpose Groovi Mat A4 (GRO-AC-40194-A4)
Archival Ink Pad – Jet Black (INK-AR-50030-XX)
Archival Ink Pad – Paradise Teal (INK-AR-50301-XX)
Mini Archival Ink Pads Kit 1 – Carnation Red (INK-AR-50443-XX)
Distress Oxide Ink Pad – Fossilized Amber (INK-DO-50409-XX)
Distress Oxide Ink Pad – Evergreen Bough (INK-DO-50405-XX)
Distress Oxide Ink Pad – Twisted Citron (INK-DO-50434-XX)
Woodblock Print Alphabet A5 Sq Die Set & A5 Magnetic Sheet (ACC-DI-31656-A5)
Sakura Quickie Glue Pen (ACC-AD-31454-XX)
Perga Colours Exclusive (PER-CO-70060-XX)

Here is where we are going…

Method

Step 1. Grab your masking tape and 4×4 embedder, along with the Clarity Groovi embossing tool. Fold a piece of masking tape into a loop and fold into a circle of tape adhering to the back of the 4×4 embedder.

Step 2. Fold your 6×6 blank card, working out which is the front of the card and which opening you would like (tent fold or side fold).

Step 3. Adhere the embedder to the front inside of the card, open your card and place your card face down onto your copy paper, with the embedder at the bottom adhered with the Masking tape.

Step 4. With your finger or thumb find the edge of the embedder, once located make sure all four sides are visible. With the embossing tool find the edge and run the tool down one side of the embedder. Turn your copy paper and do this for all sides. I use the bigger end of the embossing tool and then crisp up with the smaller end.
TOP TIP: Always pull the tool towards you on your dominant side.

Step 5. Taking the first of your Distress Oxides and Stencil, adhere your stencil to the card using the low tack Clarity Masking Tape. Pull your Spot-On-Sponge into a mushroom shape, load your sponge with ink and pounce through the stencil, until you get the required depth of colour.

Step 6. Repeat with your other colours.

Step 7. Using your die cutting machine, cut the necessary letters for your project.

Step 8. Colour the letters you are using with your Perga Exclusives.

Step 9. Line up your letters to form your words, positioning the letters within the embedder frame. Working from the outside towards the middle position your letters, ready to glue. Using your Quicky Glue Pen, stick your letters in the required position.

Step 10. With your Archival bright inks, stamp splodges and splats. Stamp the colours around the words, taking care not to go over the top of your letters.

Step 11. Using any bee from the Wee Bees stamp set, ink up with Black Archival and stamp as many Bees as you want.

You’ve finished your project!

What a fun card! I know a few littluns that would LOVE it.
