It’s Tuesday Wednesday!
Hi there, everyone. It’s Tuesday Wednesday. Yes, we usually blog on Tuesday, but you know how it is. A little extra project came in last minute so we took care of that first. Ran out of time for the blog, but we’re in charge and we can do what we like. So a Wednesday blog it is. Anyone up for a nice game of chess?
I’d quite like to learn chess. I’m not great at maths but I do enjoy patterns and strategy and I’d also like something else to be better than my wife at. That’s not a given, I suppose, but we have quite an enjoyable scrabble rivalry in which she’s beaten me only twice ever in our decade of knowing each other. Which is quite fun for me and rather frustrating for her, being the one with the writing degree and all! Anyway… Chess… The Queen’s Gambit series on Netflix has really glamourised the game and filled a whimsical nation with the romantic notion of becoming an elegant chess strategist. Beauty appears in the most unexpected places, right? Perhaps that’s also got something to do with the fact that we’re launching our brand new Grungy Background and Chess Pieces stamp set.
Anyway, we’re back on TV this week, and Barbara Gray is stopping by for a spot of afternoon tea, but not before a nice game of chess. It’s a very aesthetic game is chess. So many exquisite shapes and symbols that lend themselves to art and craft perfectly. Our Lucy, in the design team, has done an incredible job of transforming the ‘look’ of chess into three amazing stamp sets. The first set includes the chess pieces themselves as well as squares and outlines for creating chess board designs. The other two sets offer a range of grungy design assets for creating backgrounds and textured elements. Do join in from 2-4pm this Sunday and see if you can check mate?!
Next up, Barb will be kicking off the One Day Special with the launch of our Linda Williams designed Tea and Coffee collections of Groovi Plates. There are four Plates in each collection. One collection for tea lovers, and one collection for those a little more partial to percolations. These charming and tasteful designs are a homage to high tea and afternoons spent in pleasant company. The traditionally inspired style of these Plates will really resonate with trad parchers and Groovers alike. The shows are at 6pm and 8pm on Sunday 7th, plus 8am, 12pm and 4pm on Monday 8th. Barb will be showcasing the brand new products with super live demos and it promises to be a fun and edutaining One Day Special.
Well, how does that sound then? We are all very excited here in the office. Excited to see your reactions, that is. We’re not doing this for us, you know (well, we are a bit, we are trying to turn a profit here, that’s just necessary). But really, truly, our main joy comes from when our customers enjoy our products and when we see that we have designed and produced something you guys really want. Like when you give a present to a loved one and you watch them open it so you can see the look of delight on their face. That’s what we’re all in this for.
Well, I think that will do from me. But, like Columbo, I have one more thing. All this talk of chess got me thinking about another passion of mine; jazz and blues music (trust me, there’s a link). So, how about a little competition? Answer the following question, and I’ll put you in the mix to win a little Clarity prize. So, the question.
Q: What links the following jazz and blues singers; Etta James, Solomon Burke, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters & Marlena Shaw? (Clue – the answer is a word I’ve mentioned several times in this blog – linked to Sunday’s new stamp set).
If you know the answer, email me gallery@claritystamp.com or leave a comment below. And I’ll announce a winner next Tuesday 🙂
Thanks for reading and good luck with the competition.
Stuart
Looking forward to seeing the new stamps and groovi plates. Chess is the word that links them, they all released music through Chess records.
A great game for thinking and out jinxing your partner.
Chess- chess records is common denominator x
I believe the word to be Chess…great blog enjoyed it very much
I’m guessing chess 😂
Thanks for the blog Stuart, looking forward to the Hochanda shows at the weekend. The link to all those great singers is the amazing Chicago based record company, Chess records!
Hi what a great blog post. I am looking forward to the shows. I think the answer is Chess – Chess Records. That was an interesting trip around Google. Take care. Hugs xxx
brilliant idea for male cards, both my hubby and grandson play chess
the answer has to be chess
Good afternoon, me and my hubby have a game of chess here and there, he always beats me though, must get the board out again as we did during first lock down but then summer happened and we didn’t get back to it apart from mentioning it! Enjoyed the Queen’s Gambit. These stamps will be a useful addition and, as for the Groovi plates, need I say more, it looks like you could lift one of those coloured cakes off the plate ! I thought it was Wednesday yesterday in any case ! X
Think the word could just be Chess? Hopefully I’m right, love the look of the afternoon tea Groovi plates, my birthday next week so they could be heading to my basket!
The word is probably Chess. I learned to play at school, but having no-one to play with since, I’ve virtually forgotten all I ever knew!! I remember it being quite a good game as I also like strategies and patterns. Won’t be getting the stamps though -budget won’t allow at the moment!
Could the answer be ‘chess’? Hope so x
Hi Stuart, The Chess Story, links those artists.
I’m looking forward to watching the ODS, the samples look amazing !!
Love from Patricia xx
Hi, love the idea of grungy stamps.
Not sure I have the intellect for chess but I do like to make a mess.
The answer to the puzzle is Chess as in Chess Records.
Can’t wait for the weekend shows! I think the word is “chess”
Hi Stuart, I hope your wife beats you at chess! It’s not good for anyone to win all the time. Never believe ‘we can do what we like’ – everything has consequences.
The competition answer is chess.
Looking forward to the shows.
Looking forward to the weekend shows.

They all recorded with Chess records, a US label that ran from the late 50s to about 1970.

Looked for you on Tuesday & forgot yesterday so have just found you now & caught up with everything from Clarity Towers. I must admit I am not into the game of Chess but there again I haven’t really given it a go long enough to grasp the rules & tactics. A case of tried it – failed & gave up !!
Great blog, think the word you’re looking for is chess it’s mentioned a fair, few times.
Hi Stuart, that answer would be Chess, the Record Label. Looking forward to the shows. Take care all. Bx
