Day-Trip 4: Netherlands

Hi there, day-trippers, Stuart here again! Steven is around somewhere, too. I think he might be around trying to buy a souvenir fridge magnet. That’s his thing – collecting fridge magnets from all over the world. Neat, huh?!

Anyway, we’re about to set off for the Netherlands, today. So, while we wait for Steven to choose his fridge magnet, let’s take a look at some of the marvelous artwork that was sent in from Africa. There are some great colours in there, but I have to say, I find the black and white drawings particularly striking! Thanks to everyone who sent artwork in.

Please do keep those designs coming in. If you email your doodles from the Netherlands to gallery@claritystamp.com, I’ll pick those up and be sure to post them in tomorrow’s blog to show off 🙂

Right, looks like Steven has finally turned up. Don’t worry we’re still on time for a nice full day in the Netherlands.

I’m particularly keen to see the sights and hear the sounds, as I wasn’t around for the original trip there with Barbara. Why don’t you let me know what was your favourite thing from Barb’s SHAC lessons there? I’d love to know specific doodling techniques you learned from Barbara that you didn’t know before. Why not leave me a comment on this post below?

You can use the links below to re-live the Netherlands, from either Facebook or YouTube.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/watch/claritystamp.co.uk/3046539905400145/

YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCRkRNF5pg0&list=PLmytW2NIfA_YMIebwvOimT6seMMx1dqpC

As always, there is a free template to download to help you with the doodling, if you’d like it. I’ll be honest, that windmill does look tricky, I’d be going for this template myself.

Download Here

And don’t forget to pick yourself up a little souvenir to remind you of your stay. We don’t sell fridge magnets, but we do have a fine selection of Groovi, Dies, and stamps with a distinctly Dutch theme. Check them out below!

A wide selection of Dutch themed Clarity souvenirs; everything from tulips to bicycles to windmills.

Ok! We’ll leave you to explore the Netherlands for a little while and we’ll catch up with you a bit later on. Do leave comments on Facebook or on this blog post. We’d love to know what you think of the Netherlands.

I don’t know much about the Netherlands, but I do know that I love Dutch art. In fact, my favourite artist is Dutch. Hmmm, sounds like another competition to me… I’ll give you some clues and, if you can guess his name, leave a comment below. I’ll choose a winner at random and announce who won in tomorrow’s blog. And yes, there is a nice little prize I’ve picked out for the winner.

Clue 1: He is best known for his involvement with the De Stijl art movement.

Clue 2: Many of his paintings only use two or three colours, with black and white.

Clue 3: His work was the inspiration behind a very famous collection of dresses by Yves Saint Laurent in 1965.

Do you know who he is? Fun fact – I have a tattoo of one of his paintings on my arm!

Good look. And have fun in the Netherlands.

Stuart and Steven.

I enjoyed learning how to draw the tulips and the rope border- simple but effective. The artist is Piet Mondrian.

Loved a carrot person, never ever thought of using a carrot shape to create people. Loved the Tulips too! I couldn’t get the song out of my head, but of course it had to be a little mouse with clothes on, tickled me pink that story. I love a BG story. Love a Shac day. Good job boys keeping us company whilst Barb has a shac clear up/ she’s not doing well clearing our, I think I’d be worse, guarantee if I bin it I’ll need it the following week. Happy Thursday. Amazing examples of African “doodling”, Barbara’s SHAC sessions have really brought out the artists in Clarity’s family.
I’m guessing your favourite artist is Mondrian, you should show us the tattoo!

Your favorite artist must be Piet Mondrian. I’ve always liked his geometric art, but while searching, I looked at his early impressionistic style and it’s really nice too. I learn something new every day here.

Holland…. loved the windmill and the tulips……the buildings???? Well they didn’t get past the planning committee….too many defects and an unstable construction 🤣🤣🤣🙄.
Your artist is Piet Mondrian. My favourite Dutch artist is Vermeer (aka Colin Firth lol)

Hi Alison! Windmills are pretty neat. Glad you enjoyed the trip! Vermeer is in interesting choice. A prime example of becoming famous only after death. Great artists are never appeciated in their time, hey!

The artist you are referring to is Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan . I hadn’t come across him before but remember the seeing pictures of the fashion items. His art changed quite a bit over the years as I suppose it does for us crafters – always trying new things. I liked doing the rope border & the carrot people whilst on our stay in Holland. I need to finish my drawing but at the moment it is in my pile of TFO’s.

Piet Mondrian is the artist that you are alluding to. I have a genetic blood condition…Leiden Factor V…and yes my haematologist told me it was discovered by Dutch scientists….so Barbara’s referencing to the beautiful town of Leiden, certainly struck a chord with me!! Funny how things turn out to be interlinked, don’t you think?!

It could be either Piet Mondrian or Theo van Doesburg, who was the founder of that movement. It’s all down to who is tattooed on your arm!! Lol. Loved doing the tulips. I still have the buildings to do which look great. I’ll pay another trip to Holland soon and finish what I started!

What I loved about the shac Shack was the way Barbara broke everything down into small chunks which seemed to make it more doable (hope that’s a word). It was so relaxing listening to her stories while we did our doodling too, she had faith in us as well insisting we could do it. Wish our art teachers at school were of that mindset.

Was Amsterdam where we discovered Carrot People? I could only dip in and out, so I missed Day One of this trip (and the rope which so many people commented on as being difficult) but I enjoyed the Carrot People!
I will be catching up on the Windmill, etc – it’s on my list along with Africa and Hawaii!

The artist? I had to google it, I didn’t know the answer, but I think it’s Piet Mondrian?
