She’s baaaaack!
Hi all! Grace here
How was your week? I got back Sunday evening and hit the ground running.
It was a lovely week. Very fun! Went far too quickly of course. Literally felt like we were gone for 2 days, but we were actually gone for 5 (Tuesday – Sunday). Flew by! And now I’m wishing we’d done more ‘resting’ instead of hiking. But what a beautiful 7 mile hike it was on the Thursday…
There was certainly a moment or two where I wasn’t sure we were going to make it. Particularly after our group ran out of water in mile 3… Not even half way! Hahaha. Lack of planning perhaps?
But the views! It was stunning. This particular trail was intense. Not a hike for the weary… which is why we chose it, because there was NOBODY else up there. Perfect for social distancing!
I love hiking, could do it every weekend. But not this trail! Blimey.
We were also (of course) struggling from our life choices the night before.
Drinking games and hiking are not a hot match! I certainly am not the same girl I was in college. Are you?! Out dancing until 4am, in class by 8am. HOW DID I DO THAT?
But yes, a lovely lovely week out of the city. Good company, good weather and good food. Lots to be grateful for!
But don’t go getting too jealous too quickly you lot!
I also got eaten alive by mosquitos and ants, and got VERY sunburnt.
By the time Sunday rolled around, I was well and truly ready to not be in bug-ville anymore. They love me, bugs. Ever since I packed in smoking cigarettes almost 4 years ago. In fact, they don’t seem to bite ANYONE ELSE when I’m around these days. So take sweet me on all your future trips š
To celebrate my return, let’s have a little giveaway competition!
The hiking trail we went on was called ‘Gertrude’s *BLANK*’. Guess what body part of Gertrude I almost perished on, and you’ll be in for a chance to win this lovely quartet groovi plate!
Guess away! This could be funny š
See you Friday!
Lotsa love, Grace xoxo

Gertrude’s nose!
Hi Grace, welcome back and good to hear you had a great hiking break, although sorry you had to suffer “bug hell”! Sometimes “enjoying Nature” can have the odd drawback or two! The trail looks beautiful though from your photos. Judging by the very prominent rock in the photo, I’m guessing at “Gertrude’s Nose”!
Sounds like you had a great break, apart from the bugs. It is Gertrude’s Nose.x
Avon Skin so Soft – Original or eating marmite is meant to help.
I second Linda’s suggestion on Skin So Soft. It works and it smells lovely. Glad you survived, Grace.
Hello Grace so glad you had a refreshing break!
I think it is called Gertrude’s Nose.
Hugs
Jules
Hello and welcome back. It’s good to know you had a wonderful time and to see the country vista that is available. It’s amazing how you associate NY with the city and not the wonderful wildernesswhich is obviously available.š¤ I believe being bitten has got something to do with blood types such as ‘O’ and skin chemicals which attract them (being prone myself). I think your hiking trail photograph looks like a nose jutting out – so I too am going with the name ‘Gertrude’s Nose’.
Sounds like you had a super time despite the bugs! What spectacular landscapes – “Gertrude’s nose” is the hike.
It’s Gertrudes Nose – great views!
Fabulous views on Gertrudes nose. Worth the effort well done!
Gertrudeās Nose
Itās the same for me with regard to the bugs – I always get bitten dreadfully and everyone else is fine š
Sounds like you had a fabulous time, if a little energetic. It’s good to have break, will miss ours this year, I would love a change of scene. I think it is Gertrude’s nose, that cliff looks like a witch’s nose, very pointed. Hope you did not get too near the edge. xx
Hiking Gertrude’s Nose/Millbrook Mt. Loop, Shawangunks, NY
Glad you had a good trip, apart from the bugs. I think itās called Gertrudeās nose. I certainly would not have stood on that cliff edge. X
Well I’m going with the majority Gertrude’s nose it certainly resembles my big nose! ‘Bugs’agree with the skin so soft was advised when trying to avoid the Scottish Midges it does wonders, and tonic water wards of Mosquitoes they don’t like the quinine in it! So if you like a G&T you should ward them off pretty well. Heights not my thing, especially anywhere there are steep overhanging rocks or cliffs. Glad you had a break, you and your Mum both needed a battery recharge. Crafty hugs. Tina
Glad you are back safe and sound from āGertrudeās Noseā.
Gertrude’s nose – hope you are ok though!
It looks like Gertrudes nose to me! Hope you had a fabulous break! Great to have you back Grace xox

Hello Grace
I am glad to hear you had a lovely time. They say a change is as good as a rest, lol. It doesn’t sound as if you did much resting! I am going with everyone else and saying ‘Gertrude’s Nose’.
Love
Roz.xxx
Welcome back from Gertrude’s nose. What other bits of Gertrude did you have to cross to get to and from this protuberance?
Agree with Linda – Avon’s Skin so Soft. Worked for me in Kenya and India last year. Also smells much nicer than the normal insect repellent.
I think itās called Gertrudes nose, x
Hi Grace, not good running out of water, but “Gertrude Nose” sounds like a gorgeous hike.
X
I think itās Gertrudeās Nose.
Is it Gertrude’s Nose, looks lovely, hope your fully recharged
Bugs love me too š
It’s Gertrudes Nose xx
Great to hear you are back safe and well Grace, no idea where you went so going to have a stab in the dark and go for Gertrudeās ELBOW. Probably completely wrong as everyone else is saying Nose but as you say #gottobeinittowinit! Glad the bugs left some of you and that you had fun and recharged those batteries. Stay safe xx
Glad you were able to get out and enjoy the countryside. Insects love me too, I always get bitten just doing the gardening. Your hiking trail is called Gertrudeās nose!
Try spraying yourself with Avon dry oil spray as it repels the insects.
Gertrudeās nose
Hope you weren’t bitten on your nose to.
We go on holiday to rest from work but end up doing more as we are on holiday than if working..
Glad you had a fab time tho.
I am guessing Gertrude ‘s Nose.
Glad you had a good break.x
Hi Grace – I Want to say Gertrudeās Chest as it sounds so much more funny BUT I think itās really Gertrudeās Nose!!
I can’t hike like I used to but do like to be out in the fresh air with wonderful views and peace. I think it may be ‘nose’ also.
Gertrude’s Spine? Glad you made it back safely. What spectacular views. Well worth the effort. Stay safe.
Gurtrudes Nose
Sorry Gertrude’s Nose
I reckon it’s Gertrude’s Nose….sounds like you had a fun time. Always good to recharge the batteries. Mosquitoes like me too, unfortunately!
Hi Grace. Itās great to have a break away and get some freedom after the lockdown situation. Good to go some place thatās not very populated. Sorry you got bitten though it awful hope youāre all better now. Keep smiling. I think itās Gertrudeās Nose xx
It’s called Gertrude’s Nose
Gertrude nose
Grace, I definitely feel your pain. Ever since burying my legs in sand at the beach to cool them down, only to be eaten by sand fleas so much that both legs were entirely covered in welts, I’ve been severely allergic to any biting critter. Not that it seems to matter to them as they still find even a speck of skin I’ve not covered in repellent!
So glad you had a lovely vacation hiking used to be my thing too š Now it is just strolling but I still love to get out in nature.
Gertrudes Nose
Gertude’s Nose. Who was Gertrude.?
Hi Grace,
Gertrudeās Nose! I am glad you had a fabulous time with your mates. It sounds like my kind of hike!
Love Kate x
Hi grace , looks like gertrudes nose to me . Glad you enjoyed even tho the flea flies had a feast .
Gertrudes Nose. Unless her posterior is pointy.
Have you tried Johnson aloe Vera baby lotion. Itās a blue green bottle in the uk. Itās supposed to stop mosquitoes and itās good for sunburn to. Another good simple treat for sun burn salt in your bath. Thank you for the photos it looks incredible.
Gertrudes Nose bet you had a great time although it looked scarey in parts. Glad to see you back as safe as you can be these days xx
Sounds like you had a great time apart from the bugs. I think it was Gertrudeās Nose.
I donāt know whether you can get it but Avon skin so soft is good the bugs donāt like it also told by pharmacist told me vit b tablets itās like marmite bugs donāt like it.x
Nose?
Hi Grace,
So happy you returned and could help me this week. I have never been in Minnewasaka, but I had a friend who was there on Gertrude’s Nose. And he told us all about it. So I think that You hiked there.
Gertrude’s Nose.
Sounds and looks like you had a fab break from the city, apart from the bug bites and sunburn.
Think it’s Gertrude’s Nose.
Stay safe, Jackie
Glad you had such a great time away. My guess is Gertrudeās Nose. So glad you didnāt have a slip. Hugs from Canada šØš¦
Glad you enjoyed your trip, which even sounds worth the bug bites! They always went for my husband and younger daughter, but left me and my elder daughter alone. My husband says that even bugs have taste!? Cheek. Anyway, he has a big nose, so I will go for Gertrudeās nose š hugs. Annette X
Sorry, I forgot to say please donāt include me in the prize draw, as I won in the last one. Cheers. Annette X
Welcome back Grace! The best views apparently are from Gertrude’s Nose. – I use Avon’s Skin So Soft, when playing golf it really does help and take I always take it away on holiday as it’s a safer option than a chemical spray. I turn up and all the mossies cheer that lunch has arrived! š¤£
I would say looking at your photos that it must be Gertrudes Nose
Try and get hold of some Avon skin so soft the bugs hate it.

Hi Grace – I’m not here to “guess to win” I just want to say – beautiful trip and sights !! Two years ago we went to Montana on a road trip and we crossed the Skalkaho Pass as well as the Continental Divide, and saw some mountain sights like this. These mountains are called the “american Alps” and they are quite a sight. I was 60 years old , and I asked the same question about drinking and having fun and how did I do that next morning thing ?? Glad you had a great time – thanks for the story. — Ruth
Hi there, I missed this post last week for some reason! Have you tried Deet? It’s what I used in Malawi and it seemed to work. You would love the west coast of Scotland and midges and I’m sure they would love you, too!! Lol. Sounds like you had a great hike! Not one bit envious!! I’d have been looking for oxygen as well as water!! Anyway, take care. Hx
