Feeling Grateful

Hi there, Steven here.

What a week it’s been! Where did the time go? I hope you’ve all enjoyed our day-trips and managed to catch up with your doodling and colouring this week, ready for more time in the SHAC Shack with Barbara, next week.

We’ll be there at 10am every weekday for more of the same, starting from tomorrow.

I hope you are happy with the amazing artwork you’ve created, learning a thing or two along the way, whilst keeping each other company during these challenging times. Challenging, indeed!

But as Barbara says, this too shall pass.

This week, with the restrictions being relaxed it’s so lovely to begin to see loved ones. My daughter, Freya, is now 10 months old and it seemed so long ago since any of our family had a chance to spend quality time with her. Whilst modern technology allows us to stay connected, it’s just not the same as spending quality time with the ones you love. I’m sure a lot of you remember or know, but a baby can change so much in such a small space of time.

So, this week my Mum FINALLY had a chance to cuddle her and interact with her. We invited her over to come and sit in the garden with us – the first time since March! It was such a beautiful moment, but a stern reminder of how important it is to cherish those moments. Since lockdown, Freya has learnt to sit up from a laying down position, crawl and is now taking her first steps. Not only that, but she also interacts a lot more, such as waving, clapping, playing peek-a-boo and so much more.

I thought I’d share this little moment with you because I’m sure we can all relate to this. The pandemic has affected us all in different ways but we made it this far TOGETHER. The community spirit has kept us going. For this reason, I’m feeling grateful and thankful. I’m sure many of you have some wonderful re-united stories and we’d love to hear them if you’re happy to share them with us. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Well, that’s it from me today. I’ll speak to all you again next week!

Bye for now.

Steven

We had just got used to cuddles with our two new Great grandchildren, prior to Lockdown. They are Ellie now 10 1/2 months and Jake now 5 months.. What’s app family group has kept all the family updated daily with their new achievements and no complaints about the new message alert at all times of the day!

Aw that’s so lovely to be able to get together and enjoy cherished moments. I’m dying to get back to Kent to get a cuddle with my New Great Nephew who was born just before lock down and is now a chubby gurgling smiling little bundle I just want to squeeze him. So I can imagine how your family have missed your little Freya.

Sadly it will be a while before I see my parents again. 600 miles each way requires a plane journey or overnight stay and I fear it’s still to risky for either option just yet. I’m sure you had a brilliant time reuniting with your family and for granny to see and interact with little Freya.

Family visited this weekend, first in ages. It was so good to see the youngsters. The youngest had a sort through his cuddly toys and fished out 3 that were now too young for him – off to the charity shop. They all grow up so fast.

I’m so happy for you all. There were big reunions either side of me yesterday and the children were so delighted. I hope that is a lasting memory rather than the tedium of lockdown.

Finally got to hug my mother recently. It was wonderful, but a bit sad that it was scary too.

Ahh that was lovely for your Mum and little Freya. What a difference your Mum must have noticed with Freya. We were invited to my son’s on Friday for tea which was lovely, no cuddles yet though, our grandchildren are 15 and 12. They luve about an hour away. Our daughter came for a short visit a few weeks ago with our other two grandchildren 16 and 13. It’s a two hour journey for them. When we visit we stay at least overnight. So looking forward to all the restrictions being lifted so we can see them more often and have some hugs.xxx

Hope you took lots of photos to show Freya later. We spent the day with our daughter & 2 granddaughters yesterday & today helping her with some decorating & the garden which due to breaking her wrist 3 weeks into lockdown & also shielding but working from home hadn’t managed to do. Our daughter hadn’t told the girls that we were going so they were very excited when we arrived – we had careful hugs & a few tears – its been a long since we were able to do that.
As our other 2 granddaughters live in Wales I am not sure when we will be able to go & see them. We had a Zoom birthday party for the 2 year old & to welcome her new baby sister who is already 5 weeks old to the family but not the same as a real cuddle.
I know there are many who live along way from their families so hopefully soon things will ease so that they can meet up to.
