Pooh Corner and Gilding Flakes…

Hi there crafters. Stuart here with my jolly, Tuesday blog spot.

Now, I’m sure many of you know the importance of being careful what you say to small children. No – I’m not talking about accidentally teaching them swearwords, although last week it did sound as though the boy had mastered a word he’s never heard in this house. But let’s not dwell on that too much, just to be on the safe side 😜. What did happen though, was that the children were happily watching Winnie the Pooh when I decided to tell the girl that the Hundred Acre Wood was a real place. She never believes me about these things, you see because I always tell her weird facts that sound unbelievable to a four-year-old, but are actually true. So, when she discovers that I wasn’t fibbing this time, and also that it wasn’t far from home, we just HAD to go, didn’t we? So, I talked myself right into a trip to the Ashdown Forest. I suppose I’ll go to B&Q next Saturday, instead…

Oh well, it turned out to be quite a nice trip. Kids ACTUALLY behaved and we had a picnic. We dropped some sticks into the very slow-flowing stream beneath Pooh Stick Bridge and even saw Owl’s house high up in a tree so large no one could possibly climb it and knock to see if anyone was home (spoilsports). Apologies that I didn’t take any photo’s to share, turns out I was enjoying being disconnected for a change and I didn’t even take my phone out of my pocket. Fresh air and proper conversation enjoyed by all. What a novelty!

I do however have a photo from last Sunday’s drive to a different part of the forest and I’ve highlighted the rough location of Pooh Corner for you!

Didn’t get out of the car for this trip. Wanted to keep the engine running so I could charge the battery that kept going flat due to lack of driving…

*now for a masterful segway*

I don’t know if you’ve ever driven through the Ashdown Forest. If you have, as you can see from the photo above, it’s dense, full of trees and shrubs. Plenty of Heather, plenty of Gorse (of course) and at this time of the year, the foliage is amazing. Every shade of green you could imagine as well as some stunning deep purple/red (does anyone know what type of trees have dark red leaves at this time of year)? Anyway, that got me thinking, we have rather a few foliage-inspired designs across our product ranges which are well worth checking out: https://claritystamp.com/search?type=product&q=foliage .

We also have a really neat YouTube tutorial by Barbara using the Funky Foliage 7×7″ stencil. It’s simple, easy, pretty quick and punches well above its weight. You wouldn’t expect such a simple project to make such a wonderful looking piece of art, but there you go. It’s amazing what you can do when you just know how…

Featuring Gilding Flakes, Adhesive Sheets and an A6 canvas board, it’s well worth checking. And with 20% off all those ingredients, it’s mighty tempting to try it out, right?

Before I go, quick hands up who’s used Gilding Flakes before? I’d love to see some artwork if you have any pics to share… Either comment below or email me gallery@claritystamp.com and I’ll pick those us.

Well, that’s all for me for now.

Enjoyed seeing that YouTube Tuesday again. I love gilding flakes so will send you photos of a couple of cards I’ve made. I have the some of the mount boards but haven’t trusted myself to try with them yet! Maybe soon. Glad you had a good day yesterday in the sunshine.

Love Ashdown Forest and Pooh Corner, albeit have never visited Pooh bridge, But my daughter did her D of E Hike all through there and based everything on the stories. They even took little miniatures of the characters with them and took photographs to illustrate their journey when the returned.

Love gilding flakes but not into sending pictures as I rarely take photos and no longer have a scanner.

Never been to the Ashdown forest despite hubby being a great Pooh fan, he’s especially fond of Tigger who is bouncy like him HaHaHa !!!

There are lots of trees with deep red/rust coloured leaves but cannot help with names as my tree identification book is currently buried behind hubbies piano keyboard and I ain’t shifting it – sorry.

Keep well, keep safe and keep smiling. 🍒

Loved the tutorial on gilding flakes. Had a go this afternoon and have sent you a photo by email. I did it on a piece of card and then stuck it to a mount board. Now to go and have a go with Dotty!!

    Stay safe all of you.x
