For something a little different!

Hello hello! Grace here.

I hope this finds you well and enjoying your Sunday.

This Sunday we have something a little different to our usual Blog Tutorials!

Mum was browsing Facebook last week (as you do when you’re on forced rest in a hospital) and saw this artwork on Groovi Worldwide. She was straight on the phone with Paul at Clarity Towers – ‘This has to be highlighted!’. So we thought that the Clarity Matters Blog would be the perfect place to share with everyone.

This card was created by Sally Poole.

Paul reached out to Sally to find out how she got into Parchment Craft, and this is what she said:

“I watched Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas a couple of years ago and was in awe of a lady who made a piece of parchment look like lace. I couldn’t get it out of my mind, so I started researching and found Groovi and Clarity. With my Christmas money, I got myself set up and have become well and truly hooked ever since. I have been doing Groovi for two years this month. I have always been a crafter and I have tried many crafts; paper cutting, needle felting and cake decorating, to mention a few. But I now feel that I have found my craft. I have learnt from Groovi Tuesday, Craft Alongs, Linda Williams Pergamano School and some trial and error. For me, the best thing about parchment is there is so much to learn, so many techniques and a very helpful community on Groovi Worldwide”

What an amazing story and piece of artwork. I know that if I received a card like that, it would be in a frame and on the wall!

So, what has Sally used to create this masterpiece?
In essence, 2 key products:

Firstly, the Rose Frosted Floral Overlay Pack

Here at Pergamano, we have come up with a new and clever way to
combine colouring and embossing, which is both exciting and beautifully
effective.

This new technique needs two images which are exactly the
same, one embossed on parchment (top layer) and one which has been
brightly coloured on parchment (bottom layer). When the two layers are
sandwiched together, the effect is fabulous! A gently frosted image every
time.

Other beautiful designs are also available…

In the Frosted Overlay Packs, you will find the printed layers and
parchment you need:
• Superbly fine white ink images already printed onto the parchment,
waiting to be embossed by YOU.
• A black line drawing of the same, which goes underneath a sheet of plain
parchment, ready for you to colour in.
Plain parchment is also included.

Although very traditional parchment skills will be applied (embossing
and colouring onto parchment from a pattern underneath), this new
approach makes an otherwise quite advanced parching technique very
achievable for everyone.

Firstly, the line art is already delicately printed onto the parchment
in white, so there is no need to draw the image with a white pencil.
Secondly, working on two separate layers is quite forgiving, and neither
the embossing nor the whitework needs to be as detailed or perfect as
you might think. The embossed image gives a soft, lightly frosted overlay
to the colourwork. At the same time, the coloured layer is toned down
beautifully by the embossed layer on top. They each compliment the
other, and the result is stunning.
As the embossed artwork will be sitting on top of the coloured artwork, we
need the colour to show through. This changes how white your embossing
should be and also how you should colour the image.

And the second product used in Sally Poole’s stunning card…

Linda Williams Flower & Lace Gladiolus Groovi Plate

Other Groovi Plate designs are also available:

Set 1

Set 2

Set 3

Fabulous, right?!

We also created a brilliant ii Book to accompany Set 1 – but you can use it with all of the other sets.

FYI… It is available as a bundle with Set 1 though. Gotta love a bundle!

If you like to enjoy free video demonstrations and these Groovi designs from Linda Williams, then Tina Cox has also been shining a light on them over on Create & Craft, which are all available on Catch Up:

Set 1 was demonstrated on Sat 21st Jan – 1pm Show & 5pm Show
Set 2 was demonstrated just yesterday on Sat 18th Feb – 1pm Show & 5pm Show
And Set 3 will be demonstrated on Saturday 25th March!
Something to look forward to 🙂

Sally has kindly provided a full list of ingredients:

For the main image:
Rose Frosted Floral Overlay Pack (PER-PA-70419-XX)
Nested Picot Dies & Groovi Plate – Ovals (ACC-DI-30696-56)
Faber Castell Polychromo Pencils (ACC-PE-30797-XX)
– Leaves – 107, 167, 266, 217
– Rose – 219, 225, 194, 223, 101

For the frame:
Linda’s Flower & Lace Gladiolus Groovi Plate (GRO-FL-40921-03)
A4 Parchment (GRO-AC-40024-A4)
2 Needle Perforating Tool (Bold or Fine)
Either Ringlock Scissors, Exclusive Scissors or Perga Cutters
Super Foam (GRO-AC-41957-A4)

For the Card/Assembly:
Rainbow River Companion Paper (ACC-CA-31341-88)
Clarity Roll-a-Tape Glue Runner (ACC-MS-31065-XX)
Pergamano Perga Glue (PER-AC-70133-XX)
8×8 White Card Blank (ACC-CA-30620-88)

TOP TIP 1 from Sally: When tracing out the lace, start at the top or bottom. If the spacing doesn’t quite work out, it is less obvious than if it was at the side. You can always add a bow to hide it!

TOP TIP 2 from Sally: I used a small amount of Perga Glue to attach the Rose to the darkest-coloured areas.

Everything used to make this absolutely immaculate card can be found on the Clarity website, HERE. Thank you, Sally, for allowing us to showcase your artwork and sharing your tips and tricks with us 🙂

But hold up! Before you guys at home go exploring or shopping… If you are a Clarity Craft Club Member, then you may want to wait until tomorrow when the Clarity Craft Club Half Price Members Sale starts! It runs from Monday through to the end of February, just saying! 😉

So, other than THAT great news… what is going on at Clarity Towers this week?

Dear Grace. Sorry to hear you have Covid, was that from the flight home? Hope you feel better soon. I am sure you are happy that mum is home, but a long way to go yet. This is a beautiful design
I have three of these plates and some of the frosted ones, not had the chance to get at them yet. I am ashamed to say I started Groovi soon after it started, but still haven’t managed one as good as this. One problem is I had a nasty fall in 2019 and damaged my left eye, luckily can see better than expected but still not good enough for close work. I still make lots of cards just not like that. Take care and get better. Xxxxx

The lady on Kirsty’s programme all that time ago was a good friend of mine and a parchment crafter of many years, Alison Yeates. She recently retired. ..clever lady. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work Sally Poole. Sorry to hear you have Covid Grace, get well soon. Keep up the good work Barbara, one step at a time. Xx

Thank you Grace for sharing and excellent Sally. It is strange as the paper craft on Kirstie s hand made Christmas a couple of years ago is what got me started too. I had a subscription to aparchment craft magazine for my birthday in the January and then discovered Barbara on YouTube. I also learnt from Groovi Tuesday and craft alongs and am completely hooked. Will definitely try this card with the tatty tulip as i have that on
