Clarity Matters Blog Tutorial: How To Use the Angle Tool

Hello hello! Grace here.

I hope this finds you well, safe, and enjoying your Sunday morning.

Have you been following Paul and his Groovi Tuesday sessions on Facebook & YouTube? He is currently working his way through the various multi-needle tools that are showcased in the Pergamano Handbook for Multi-Needle Tools – Volume 2. This week he moved on to the next tool in the book – the Angle Tool.

If you missed those last sessions, then you can catch up here:

I was quite impressed by something I found in our online community recently, relating to one of these past episodes.
Look at what Elizabeth Sykes and Gill Wilding have made…

Gill Wilding

Really quite cool. The joy of playing, experimenting & getting better and better! Thanks for sharing this with everyone, Elizabeth & Gill. It’s sat on my desktop all week, waiting to be added to this blog. It is SO cool.

Earlier this week, Paul started working with the Angle Tool. You can catch up on that episode, HERE.

Meanwhile, the lovely Glynis Whitehead has made two more projects to go with this most recent tool tutoring. I’ll hand you over to Glynis…

Angle Tool – Project 1

Ingredients

Pergamano Handbook for Multi-Needle Tools Vol 2 by Linda Williams (PER-BO-70355-XX)
Nested Arch Tags Groovi Plate A5 (GRO-PA-41465-04)
Barbara’s Paisley & Leaves Sampler A4 Sq Groovi Plate (GRO-TR-41761-15)
Angle Perforating Tool (PER-TO-70029-XX)
Single Needle Perforating Tool (PER-TO-70035-XX)
1.5mm Embossing Ball Tool (PER-TO-70004-XX)
3mm Embossing Ball Tool (PER-TO-70005-XX)
Groovi Embossing Tool 1&2 (GRO-AC-40026-XX)
Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils (ACC-PE-30797-XX)
Or Perga-Liner Pencil (B) (PER-CO-70063-XX)
Blending Nibs (PER-AC-70300-XX)
Dorso Oil (PER-CO-70066-XX)

Method

Step 1. Trace out the 2nd largest tag from the Nested Arch Tag plate.

Step 2. Emboss the paisley design onto the tag, leaving enough space at the bottom for the Angle tool perforations.

Step 3. The Angle tool is illustrated on pages 26-29 of Linda’s Handbook and the sampler you need to photocopy is on page 29. I have marked the perforation combos with red arrows.

Step 4. Lay the pattern down onto a shallow perforating mat with the parchment secured on top. Line the tag up onto the pattern marked with arrow 1. This is going to be the bottom edge of the tag. Centralising this pattern leaves enough room on either end for a single-angle tool perforation.

Step 5. Now line up pattern 2 along the bottom, inside of the tag, and shallow perforate all three pattern combinations.

Step 6. Go around the rest of the tag with the Angle tool. Add some colour to the back of the paisley design and blend with a little Dorso oil and a blending nib.

Step 7. Emboss between all the perforations using a 1.5mm ball tool. Go gently and don’t aim to get the parchment too white too soon. Also, emboss all the elements in the paisley design.

Step 8. Use the fine single-needle tool to re-perforate all the holes.

Step 9. Snip out the tag.

Step 10. Mat and layer the tag onto your chosen papers/card and add a bow.  And your first project is complete!

Angle Tool – Project 2

Ingredients

Pergamano Handbook for Multi-Needle Tools Vol 2 by Linda Williams (PER-BO-70355-XX)
Nested Arch Tags Groovi Plate A5 (GRO-PA-41465-04)
Tina’s Christmas Baubles A4 Sq Groovi Plate (GRO-CH-41009-15)
Angle Perforating Tool (PER-TO-70029-XX)
Single Needle Perforating Tool (PER-TO-70035-XX)
1mm Embossing Ball Tool (PER-TO-70011-XX)
1.5mm Embossing Ball Tool (PER-TO-70004-XX)
3mm Embossing Ball Tool (PER-TO-70005-XX)
Groovi Embossing Tool 1&2 (GRO-AC-40026-XX)
Perga Colour Exclusive Pens (PER-CO-70060-XX)
Pergamano Sticky Ink (PER-AC-70134-XX)
Perga-Glitters (PER-AC-70252-XX)
Perga Glue (PER-AC-70133-XX)
Perga Crystals (Starlight Sparkle) (PER-CR-70402-XX)

Method

Step 1. Trace out the 2nd largest tag from the Nested Arch Tags Groovi Plate.

Step 2. Emboss the bauble from Tina’s Christmas Baubles Plate.
TOP TIP: Remember to trace all of the elements you wish to emboss with the number 2 tool from the starter kit, or 1.5mm embossing ball tool.

Step 3. The Angle perforating tool is illustrated on pages 26-29. The sampler that you need to photocopy is on page 29 and I have marked the combinations used in this project with red arrows.

Step 4. Line up the tag to the corner design marked out by the arrow. Lie the paper pattern down onto a shallow perforating mat and put the parchment on top so that the design will fit nicely into the corner. Match all the needles up with the dots and perforate through both layers. Move the parchment and put the same design into the opposite corner.

Step 5. Go around the outside of the tag, following the pattern marked by the red arrow.

Step 6. Colour the bauble on the back with the Perga pens. Add some colour to the margin of the tag too.

Step 7. Emboss – I embossed the Angle perforations around the edge a little differently, using a 1mm embossing ball tool to make a line along the edge of the perforations. Do this very gently, putting a cello bag under your work for added resistance. Follow Linda’s embossing plan on page 27 for the perforations in the bottom corners of the tag. Also, emboss the elements of the bauble design.

Step 8. Place the work onto a deep perforating mat and use the fine single-needle tool to re-perforate all the holes. Snip out the tag.

Step 9. Mat and layer the tag onto your choice of backing papers/card. Add a bow, glitter, and gems. And your second project is complete!

    Hello, Grace,

Crikey, Paul’s going to be busy! With Barbara and Dave away he is also in charge back at ‘the office’. I will try and get some supplies to him to keep him going, lol.

Hi Grace & Glynis, another great set of tags to make so we can practice using our tools. Thank you also to Paul for showing us on a Tuesday morning. I did sit & do all the perforations on the sampler sheets, now I have to go back & do the embossing which is when the designs come to life. This is shown by the way Glynis has done what you think is the same design round the edge of the tags but when finished they look totally different.
Slightly cooler today but the house is still stuffy. I have opened all the windows & doors to try & get the cooler fresher air in from outside as we have a little rain but not the thunderstorms that were forecast. I might just go & sit in the garden.
Have a good week everyone, looks as though Paul has a busy week ahead xx

Thank you Grace for including my samplers and tags. That was a surprise! I’m lucky I have the time to do these, just about to snip number 3. After book 1, I said that’s it, hope they don’t try and work through book 2, but when you can get everything half price in the members’ sale and Paul and Glynis give up their time, well, it would be rude not to join in!
Have a good, hopefully cooler, week everyone. Xx
